Southern siren Asin clears the air about saying ‘no’ to Salman Khan, and her friendship with MS Dhoni
We’ve heard that you said ‘no’ to Salman Khan for “Bodyguard”, the Hindi remake of “Kavalan”?
I was even asked to do the Malayalam version of “Kavalan” but I couldn’t do it. I’m doing “Ready” with Salman Khan. I had watched the Telugu version of the film, to get the basic idea and (director) Anees Bazmi added his own nuances to the character I play.
Any reason for saying ‘no’ to Salman?
I have no issues with any co-star of mine, male or female.I have always shared an amazing camaraderie with Salman. He’s a fantastic co-star and a great human being. In fact Vijay, my co-star in “Kavalan” and I were shooting in Chennai when “Dabbangg” had released. Along with a few friends from the unit, we went to watch the film on the first day. We also went to see “Endhiran” on the first day along with the entire crew while we were in Mettupalayam.
You told TOI earlier that the three Khans were high on your wish list. Now there’s news that you are on the verge of doing a film with SRK.
I don’t want to restrict myself to just the Khans. I want to work with the best in the industry. I can’t say anything about signing a film with SRK.
Are you doing Anurag Basu’s “Silence” with Ranbir Kapoor?
I’d like to remain silent on that.
Are you superstitious about not revealing much about the projects you are doing?
I don’t like to talk about films that haven’t been finalized. That’s unprofessional. It’s the producer’s duty to announce the film/ cast, please let them do the job.
You are good friends with Sri Devi, who lives in the same building...
She’s a senior (colleague )and I admire her. Along with her daughters Jahnavi and Kushi, we go out for movies and dinner now and then. Tabu and Juhi ma’am also live in the same building. We bump into each other in the lift and exchange home-cooked food at times.
Trisha and Priyamani too, have made their foray into B-town. Do you hear alarm bells ringing?
I am cordial with both and keep in touch with them over phone. Whenever they win an award, I call up to congratulate. It’s nice to see them making a foray into the Hindi film industry. After all, we are all part of the Indian film industry.
Any Telugu films on hand?
I don’t have any southern films on hand as of now.
Talking of friends, are you still in touch with MS Dhoni?
Even if I say a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’, it’s like giving the issue unnecessary importance. I don’t want to talk about Dhoni. Anyways people imagine things and say what they want to. I have nothing to say on this.Check out Asin’s homepage
